| Here is a map of Brazil. Brazil is a country slightly larger than the continental United States. Castanhal, the site of the Children's Home, is a city of 150,000. It is located close to the Amazon and the Atlantic coast. It is also very close to the Equator (yes, it is ALWAYS hot and humid). The nearest city is Belem, a port city on the Amazon River, with a population of 2 million people (and many street kids). Belem was the first city founded in Brazil by Portugal, early in the 1600's. Belem also has the closest airport for travelling to Castanhal, a little over 1 hour away. |

| One of the many blessings we experienced is seeing how God formed a beautiful partnership to give vision, expertise and accountability to the Children's Home. His perfect design brought together three organizations to accomplish His purposes for the children's home. Project AmaZon (PAZ) is a church planting organization with a goal of planting a church in all the 40,000 villages along the Amazon. The Castanhal base church, pastored by Scott and Michelle Toth, now has over 800 members who are being discipled. The church has a big heart for "at-risk" children. For more information, please visit: Project AmaZon Arms of Love International (AoL) is an organization that places children's homes alongside churches in developing nations. AoL's founder, Robert Benson, has a heart and vision for placing children in loving, Christian homes. AoL currently has homes in Nicaragua, Mexico, the Philippines and Senegal. For more information, please visit: Arms of Love Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Grove City, Ohio, (VCF) is the third arm of this partnership, and is also our home church. VCF is committed to bringing God's word to the world and has been supporting the Toths in Brazil for a number of years. Through teaching, discipleship and prayer, VCF has played a major role in our lives. In addition, VCF is the major contributor in buying the property for the children's home. | Some information about Brazil and the Amazon. Brazil is a country with much diversity of life. Native Indians, European immigrants and descendants of African slaves make up this rich culture. In the south, Sao Paulo is the third largest citiy in the world with 15 million inhabitants. Brazil has many miles of Atlantic coastline and boasts dozens of beautiful beaches. On the border with Argentina, the beautiful Iguacu Falls are four times wider than Niagara Falls. The Amazon River is a wonder all to itself. It is the worlds largest river by volume of water and crosses the entire northern part of Brazil. With its vast system of tributaries surrounded by rain forest, the primary method of transportation is on the river. The mouth of the Amazon as it empties into the Atlantic, is too wide to see the other side. |
| The local church in Castanhal will be the spiritual base of support for the Arms of Love Children's Home. The church's Brazilian name is "Igreja da Paz" which means "Church of PAZ", with paz being the Portuguese word for "Peace". In the last five years, the church has been growing at a rate of 40% per year. The harvest is indeed ready in Castanhal. Since the beginning of 2005, the church's membership has increased from 550 to over 900. A very large percentage of this increase has been young people, indicating that the youth and young adults are hungry for the Word of God and the fellowship of other believers. |
